Nairobi
City
Nairobi, which is a corruption of the Maasai word that means "place
of cool waters", is a cosmopolitan city that is known as
the hub of travel in East and Southern Africa. Initially a depot
of the East Africa Railway line that was built by the British
colonizers from Mombasa to the East on the shores of the Indian
Ocean to Uganda to the West. This railway line was also known
as the "lunatic express" since most people in Europe
could no understand why a railway was being built in the African
jungle. Today this metropolis is a modern city of three and a
half million people. Many tours are available from this city a

Mombasa City
Mombasa
is Kenya's second largest city and the chief port of East Africa.
Despite its size, it has a relaxed atmosphere with many wide streets
and open spaces. Along the previously- busy dhow harbor in the
old town section of the city, however, are narrow lanes crowded
with thick-walled Arab houses and mosques. Fort Jesus, built by
the Portuguese in 1593 and now a National Monument, still stands
guard over the Old Town. Mackinnon Market, Mombasa's municipal
market place, offers a variety of coffees, teas, and spices sold
in bulk. Their aromas permeate the air and add to the exotic atmosphere
of this ethnically diverse city.
